Yes, you can take the standard deduction if you use either the 1040A or 1040.
You can only use form 1040A if you are single or married with one income source and have a simple return. If you have a pension, are taking any type of credits or have income from sources listed here on page 2, you must file form 1040 instead of 1040A.
