Husband lives and works in Indiana. Wife lives and works in another state. Indiana web site says to file form IT-40PNR but I don't know how to make TurboTax use this form.
What Indiana is telling you is to file as nonresidents. Indiana requires you to maintain the same status as you file on your Federal return: Married Filing Joint. However, to exclude the nonresident spouse's income from the Indiana return, you must file as nonresidents, even if one spouse is a resident.
If you select the nonresident Indiana return in TurboTax, you will get the right return (IT-40PNR). The Indiana return will have options of residency and work counties for both spouses, and you will be able to get the correct tax calculated for the one spouse who lived in Indiana.
