The TurboTax account fees are not based on whether you owe taxes, get a tax refund or have no takes owed at all.  They are based on the online edition that was used to complete your tax return.

The TurboTax Free online edition is for very simple tax returns that do not require any other form or schedule other than the Form 1040.  If your tax data requires entry on any other form or schedule then you must upgrade to the Deluxe edition or higher.

If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2022 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.

Note - If you did not have any taxable income to enter on the tax return or your only income was from Social Security then there was no reason to complete a tax return.

You are posting from Deluxe, not the Free Edition.  Deluxe is $69 for federal and 59 for state.

How to review your fees

In the Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now.  Why do I have to upgrade from the Free Edition or Plus?

Or use one of the IRS free files sites if your AGI is 73,000 or less

They did the same exact thing to me. But I didn't get notification of how much that was going to be until after it came out of my bank. So I still thought it was free until then.

I had nothing but a 10:40 and they still charged me the $128. My taxes were simple it was income and that was it. No special deductions nothing.

If you started in the Free Edition of TurboTax, you may have entered something that triggered an upgrade to a paid version. The final fees are determined by the forms that are required to complete your individual return. States are also extra and there are some add-ons that  you can agree to buy

You can review your fees using the instructions below to find out why you're being charged. You can follow the instructions in this article to remove any  unwanted Fees Why am I being charged for TurboTax Free Edition?

You can review your fees in TurboTax online as follows:

  1. Go to the left side of your screen under "Tax Home"
  2. Go to "Tax Tools" then "Tools"
  3. The "Tools Center" Box will pop up
  4. Click on "My Fees" to see a summary of your Turbo Tax Fees.
