Can't print any of my forms

I've completed all of my forms and I went to print the forms to file by mail and to make a copy for me to keep in archive but every time I go to print TurboTax freezes and I get the Spinning Multicolored ball and in Force Quit I see that TurboTax isn't responding. I'm running Mac OS 10.51.3 on a 2019 iMac.

I've restarted the computer, re-installed TurboTax Premiere 2020 and updated my Canon printer driver all to no avail. What's causing this freeze issue?

I'm having the same issue! Please someone help!

When searching other questions about this, I'm only seeing comments referencing the Troubleshoot Printing Issues page, which doesn't help at all. Does anyone have a way around this?

I'm using the downloaded TurboTax Deluxe on MacOS 10.14.6.

@Anonymous

I'm going to see if one of the Mac helpers in this forum has some comments on your situation but it may not be until the morning.  And as you requested, the info below will tell you how to phone TurboTax Support during business hours, if needed.  You may wish to hold off on phoning Support until you see if the Mac helper has a chance to comment.

In any case, if you end up needing to phone Support, you can use the Contact form at the link below to get a number, or it may schedule a call back.

Where the form asks what product you are using, be sure in the dropdown menu to indicate "CD/download" and the proper operating system, then indicate which Edition.

@macuser_22  Are you able to please assist these 2 Mac users with a printing issue when you are next in the forum?  Thanks!

Can you use File -> print and only select the Federal, then only select the State.

Is it only the state that hangs?  If so what state?

Macuser

I was able to print the Fed forms now by deselecting the State forms for print. Tried to print the State separately and TurboTax Froze. I am filing in California.

I guess we can narrow it down to an issue with the State forms.

I have seen several reports of this with state only but I cannot get a handle on it.  I have CA myself and have printed many real and test returns and no problems.

Getting the beachball is  not unusual when printing but sould not last for more then 30 seconds or so.   The Mac "hang" timer is rather short and may routines take longer than the timer to complete.

Hangs can be very difficult to trouble shoot if it cannot be reproduced at will and I have not figured out how to reproduce it.     Some user have reported that restarting in the safe mode that disables addon extensions and fonts has allowed printing.   For others it has just printed after many attempts which leads me to think that there might be some interaction with another (unrelated) process that hogs some resource that TurboTax needs.  Do you have other applications running at the same time?

Are there any special forms in the CA return besides the 540?

You can also use the Utilities -> Activity Monitor to see the running processes and select "Memory" to see the memory usage and swap space.   If all or most of the available memory is being used by other processes then it can take a very long time to swap in and out so the beach ball spins.

I'm only doing state forms, so that makes sense. I'm in NM. Hope someone has an idea that may help.

All I had running at the time was Apple Mail App, Messages and TurboTax.

I'm going to test run it on my older iMac and see if that has the same issues.

Can you try restarting the Mac in the "safe" mode (restart holding the shift key) and see if you can then print while in the safe mode?

Thank you to everyone who responded with potential solutions.

That is why this problem is a mystery and hard to get a handle on.    For MANY Mac users it has just started working and there is no common reason why.  (You cannot fix something that you cannot reproduce.)  The only thing that seems to be common is the Federal form always prints fine, it is just the state that hangs, but it has been various states.

Make sure that the saved .taxfile is under the documents then try to print. That would work from that point on.

Using Turbo Tax 2020 Standard. Cannot print from either "save to PDF" or the print your return tab - MAC hangs. When I select Print from the menu drop down and de-select state return it works fine. So, problem with the state (MA in my case). Similar problem others have had in prior years. TT needs to look into and address this issue. If it is a MA OS version issue then let us know that. I've reinstalled Adobe twice and TT once.

Nobody has been able to reproduce that to find the cause.     It appears to be some other Mac process that blocks the print call from TurboTax to the built in Apple print function, although at least  one Mac user found a leftover file from  virus software that was one installed and not totally uninstalled that caused the block.

Usually if you just print the state and wait long enough - up the a half hour, it will eventually print and once it prints the first time then it prints fine after that.

All,

Same thing happened to me. First open the Force Quit window from the Apple Menu, then try using the Print command from the File Menu. At the dialog, uncheck all but one return, e.g. state or federal (I have federal and two states). TurboTax will spin and the Force Quit window will report that the app is not responding. Now just wait, I waited almost two minutes before my printer dialog came up. I was able to print one tax return at a time successfully.

My Oregon State Tax Forms will not print because awaiting an update.  However, there is no need to wait for an update.  I downloaded instructions for including property taxes on my Schedule OR-A.  So I need to print a copy of my return NOW.

@budnsandyg2 If the program states that it must wait for an update, there is no way around the program needing the update. This is to ensure everything is completely accurate.
