Can't enter property tax payments!

I am being offered a new entry so that I can report the issue to experts...

When I try to enter my property tax payments, TurboTax Deluxe [desktop, Mac] offers me the options:

"Skip for now" or a pencil icon "Enter info".

If I choose "Enter info", TurboTax immediately returns to the Deductions and Credits level.

I can't enter anything.

Fix this please!

Thank you for the link to the phone number, rjs!

I would never have found it!

When I tried to look at my first entry, the website offered me the option of posting an entry for "experts", so I tried to do that.

As you can see by my second post, the answers offered to me were of no value.

I am not on Windows. I always update TurboTax to the lastest (as it offers to do) whenever I start it up.

Thank you for your help!

The TurboTax update (macOS) on Jan 10 fixed the issue.

My normal process is to use the "early" release of TurboTax to do a final tax estimate before the end of the year, but the 2024 early release was NOT functional.

The property tax failure was not the only deficiency. It would not allow me to enter a pension distribution amount. It said that I need to wait until Jan 11 and download the amount directly from my fund!

I canceled my subscription to the early release. There is no benefit.

Who is offering you a "new entry"?

Did you try the suggestions in the replies to your earlier post of the same question?

Please don't post multiple questions about the same issue. When information is scattered in multiple threads it's confusing and hard to follow, and hard to see the whole picture. If you want to add more information or post a follow-up question, add a reply to your original question.

If you wish, you can call TurboTax support about the problem. You do not need a separate post in order to call.

Wow, the board software interpreted the Win version number I posted as a phone number and removed it! If Intuit can do that, they can fix this problem!!

Win Version

024.

000.

I had the same problem! My work around was by going to forms and entering the information on the Schedule A. It worked and now my property tax shows on my deduction page!

Good solution, and it worked.

BUT - If Intuit is following this thread, they need to make the correction to the step-by-step entry.

I have the same problem in the Premier version.  Clicking on the update box of property tax goes in to a loop that does not allow entry of the tax data.  What is wrong??????

Same issue here!  Is there a solution I missed somewhere?  I'm using TT Deluxe Mac version 2024.r14.015 Build Jan 16, 2025 at 8:49:56 AM.

Go to forms from the property tax entry screen and manually enter the date in Schedule A.  I have multiple property tax entries so I drill down to the supporting lines.

Thanks for the tips.   Updating Schedule A directly works but if I have to modify the numbers, I'd have to go back to the form again b/c Turbotax's user-interface does not 'apply those numbers to the correct fields in the UI. Intuit really needs to fix this.  What a waste of every tax payer's time!  This is the worst bug I encountered with this 2024 version.  Other small bugs just look silly but not critical.

It seems this has been an on going program bug in Turbo Tax that they have decided is not resolve for to their paying clients.  Frankly, this may be the last year that I use TT!  I always add their Audit

Protection program.  Last year I am still fighting with the IRS for a significant  refund.  Have had to resort to my Congressman to resolve the issue of a withheld refund on what never reached the AUDIT level.  At the cost of a Premier package, I am not at all happy with my lack of results from Turbo Tax!

To enter the property tax:

  1.  Delete property taxes from form 1098 entries and then the property tax page will show up properly.
  2.  Enter the additional property taxes. Then go back to 1098 and put in property taxes on form 1098.

Or, use the forms view to enter the additional property taxes."

Click on Forms in the upper right of the desktop program screen when using the desktop editions for Windows.  In Forms mode, open the Tax and Interest Deduction Worksheet (Tax & Int Wks) on the left side of the forms mode screen.

Enter the amount of property taxes paid on Line 2 of the worksheet.

TT Deluxe will not allow me to enter anything in line 5b (real estate taxes) nor will it allow me to get the supporting details table for this entry.

Makes it impossible to do my taxes.  After nearly 30 years of using TT, it is time to bail.  The support people say it is due to IRS regulations.  I say it is a bug that they refuse to repair.

@hjrw

Follow the instructions in the post by DoninGA directly above your post. You cannot enter real estate tax directly on Schedule A. You have to enter it on the Tax and Interest Deduction Worksheet.

If you click on Schedule A line 5b a small magnifying glass will appear to the left. If you click on the magnifying glass it will take you to the Tax and Interest Deduction Worksheet. You can use Supporting Details on line 2a or 2c of the Tax and Interest Deduction Worksheet.

OK, the work around works, but what is the point of the step by step section if I just have to go to the forms to input the data?  This seems needlessly irritating, and should be recorded as a significant bug and corrected.
