PC/CD Premier TurboTax (the one not letting you out of the Investment Income loop)
Previously my oldest son was a dependent. When answering questions in the step by step, my 27 year old son, now living in another state after May 2021 who made less than $4300 in 2021, but filed his own return and for whom I did NOT provide more than half of his support, TT indicated he was still a _dependent_.
Changing and then triple-checking in Step by Step that 'DID NOT' provde more than half support was checked did not change his dependent status. Checking the 'Forms' view it appears that he was checked as dependent because it still showed me supporting more than 1/2. When it starts that way even multiple reruns using the 'DID NOT' in Step by Step does not appear to communicate with Forms where you have to manually change this to get him to show as 'Nondependent'. This may be a case where it is originally indicated the person is a dependent (I auto transferred information from last year's returns) and you may choose that some conditions have changed in step by step, but it either does not communicate that with forms or only the 'more than 1/2 support' button does not work in Step by Step... at least not in all cases.
