Can I use turbo tax if I'm a dependent? If so where do I put in that information? I see it only says single, married or complicated.

Unlike Single, Married Filing Joint, Head of Household, etc., being a dependent is not "filing status", it's a check box on page one of your tax return.  TurboTax askes you in the "Your personal info" section of "My Info".

  • To indicate you can be claimed as a dependent, while logged in to your return,
  • Click on "My Info" in the far right of your screen.
  • In the Personal info summary, click on Edit next to your name
  • Scroll down to #3 and answer Yes to Someone else can claim me as a dependent on their tax return.

Note:  Whether or not you indicate that someone else CAN claim you as a dependent, is not determined by whether or not someone does claim you.  Even if the person who can claim you  does not, you still must indicate someone else can claim you.
