Can I submit Form 8802 (Application for United States Residency Certification - Additional Certification Requests) through TurboTax?

I have a royalty check coming from the UK, and it's my understanding that the certificate will help me avoid a 26% tax rate on the royalties.

Unfortunately, you cannot file Form 8802 through TurboTax - it must be mailed separately to the IRS along with payment for a user fee.

From Instructions for Form 8802 (Rev. August 2020) Application for United States Residency Certification

Form 8802 is used to request Form 6166, a letter of U.S. residency certification for purposes of claiming benefits under an income tax treaty or VAT exemption.

When to File: You should mail your application, including full payment of the user fee, at least 45 days before the date you need to submit Form 6166. We will contact you after 30 days if there will be a delay in processing your application. You can call (267) 941-1000 (not a toll-free number) and select the U.S. residency option if you have questions regarding your application.

Where To File: The method by which you can submit Form 8802 to the IRS depends upon how you choose to pay the user fe (see page 3 for addresses and website options)
