Can I still file my taxes without the letter 6475? if so how do I go about finishing with filing my tax return?

I think you can file without the Letter 6475. The purpose of the Letter 6475 is to notify you how much the IRS thinks they sent you in 2021for the third Stimulus check. In my case my wife and I both received Letter 6475 showing that we each received $1,400 for a single Stimulus check for $2,800. That matched my records so I did not have to notify the IRS that I either received no check or was shortchanged in what I received. If you did not receive the third check at all or it was less than the proper amount, you need to file a 2021 Federal Tax Return and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit. The IRS is then supposed to check your claim and add to your refund if they think you are entitled to it. Either way you don't need to attach Letter 6475. (At least that is the way I understand it).

You can file your taxes by looking up your stimulus information on the IRS website.

If you didn’t receive or can’t find your Letter 6475, you can check your account online with the IRS’ Your Online Account portal.  This will have your relevant stimulus payment information.

Letter 6475 has all the info you need to report the correct amount of the third stimulus you received and understand if you are eligible for additional stimulus dollars and how much.

We haven't received letter 6475, but we know we received the full $2800 ($1400 each) stimulus in March 2021. I've tried 3 times to create an IRS account and finally gave up.

Do I really need this letter to file since I know we got all the stimulus dollars we were allowed? I could have filed days ago but have been waiting for this letter!

@pcarlson9. No you do not need the letter. The purpose of the letter is to allow taxpayers to report the correct amount of Economic Impact Payments because a wrong payment amount will delay the processing of your tax return while the IRS corrects your return.

The IRS says:

Some tax returns take longer to process than others, including when a return:

You are able to file with the information on the IRS website even if you did not receive a Letter 6475.

I've tried 3 times to create an account on the IRS website so I can look this up and it will not verify my ID so I can make an account. I've used my drivers license and my passport, and the site seems to get hung up on my phone number.  I gave up trying.

Hello!

Experiencing the same situation. Never received the letter 6475. Only have the letter 6419 for the CTC (Box 1: $1800 and Box 2: 1) and file as HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD. Did receive the $2800.00 in 2021. How do I respond to the Federal Question:
Based on the tax info you entered and your adjusted gross income of $32, 650, you're eligible for a third stimulus payment of $2,800.00. Does this match the amount on your letter 6475?

Do I click YES or NO?

If you received $2800, answer Yes to the question in TurboTax.

@JohnW152My IRS account shows I was sent $1400 but no money entered my account either by direct deposit or check from the IRS in 2021 and I received no letter 6475. Turbo Tax in the Federal Review section doesn't ask whether you received the money, it only asks what your 6475 said. I know according to the IRS my letter 6475 says I received $1400 but I did not. If I claim my 6475 says $0 I am lying, if I state what I know the IRS says I got nothing and I get nothing. What is the answer?

Thanks.
