Can I make Turbo Tax properly calculate taxes for 2 states?

I live in NY but I worked in VA. example.: we made 100k. 80k was from VA employment  I filled out my Fed form and then the VA form.  When I do the NY form somehow, NY is not taking into account that 80K was made in VA and is trying to tax me for the whole 100K.  How can I get turbo tax make NY realize what is going on and tax me only on the NY income?

Because New York is your resident state, you are taxed in New York no matter where you earn it.  However, to limit the effect of this double-taxation, New York will allow you to claim a credit for the taxes you pay to Virginia on the income earned in Virginia.  You cannot exclude the income from your New York return, however.

Can you point out where I can do this? I don't see what you are referring to.

There is a section on the New York return that will reference Credit for Taxes paid to Another State.  It might be in the Deductions and Credits section or just after that list of questions.  You'll be able to enter the information there.
