Can I ignore the error on the Federal Review because of excess 401K deferral when I have added the amount as misc wages?

I had excess 401K deferral, so I went into TurboTax and indicated the extra under miscellaneous wages with that description.  But I'm still getting the 2 errors on the Federal Review that indicate too much deferral.   I don't think I can go into the W2 and subtract the amount that was sent back to me, since then the W2 won't match the original.

It is now 5 days later than the expected update and I still cannot efile.  What is the status on the fix?

You are correct, you should not change your W2 because the IRS needs to match it up with your original.

TurboTax is aware of the e-filing issue that you are having and is currently working on a solution. An update to fix the issue is expected to be released around 4/5/2019.

Be sure to sign up for updates to be alerted as soon as there is a solution.  If you do not want to wait for an update, you have the option to paper file your tax returns as this is only an e-filing issue.
