You may.  Interest income paid to you is taxable income and reportable on the Federal 1040 tax return.

In TurboTax Online, follow these steps to enter interest income received on an IRS form 1099-INT.

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Tax Home.
  • Click on the down arrow to the right of Wages & Income.
  • Click on the blue band labeled Review/Edit.
  • Scroll down to Investments and Savings and click on the dropdown menu.
  • Click to the right of Interest on 1099-INT.
  • At the screen Did you have investment income, click Yes.
  • At the screen Save time by connecting your financial accounts. Click Continue.
  • At the screen Let's import your tax info, click Enter a different way.
  • At the screen OK, let's start with one investment type, select Interest.  Click Continue.
  • At the screen How would you like to upload your 1099-INT, you have several options including Type it in myself.

Some customers may experience a new way to navigate TurboTax this tax season. See this TurboTax Help.

What point???

have you actually file it (hit the Transmit button)

If you've already e-filed your tax return, you can't change it unless the IRS rejects that e-file.

If you've e-filed and the IRS has accepted it, then after the IRS sends the refund (or you have paid the taxes due on the original fileing),...you come back...say...mid-March and start an Amended tax return to add in the extra income (and fix anything else you forgot to deal with)
