Can I Get a new EIN for Converted LLC from C Corp

Hi,

I recently converted my C Corporation to an LLC and learned that I need to obtain a new EIN for the LLC. The C Corporation did not generate any sales or income under its EIN, as the business was still in its formation stage. However, there were significant expenses incurred under the C Corporation, and no federal tax return has been filed since there was no income.

Am I able to obtain a new EIN for the LLC without having to file a federal tax return for the C Corporation? And do I need to file federal taxes at all?

Thank you for your guidance.

A corporation (S or C) has to file a tax return every year whether it has any income or expenses.   To get a new EIN go to Get an employer identification number
