Can I file the federal return today, but pay taxes due on July 15th. If I do so, will my return be considered for Economic Stimulus cheque?

Yes, you can file your Federal return now and pay your balance due any time before the due date of July 15, 2020.  Filing your return should be used to determine your eligibility for a stimulus payment.  These payments are being made throughout the year, so there is not a deadline to be met associated with filing your tax return to qualify for the stimulus payment.

 

After your tax return has been accepted by the IRS, you can check the status of your stimulus payment using  Get My Payment.
