You are posting from the Free Edition which does not support itemized deductions.   Unless you have a lot of other itemized deductions such as mortgage interest or high medical expenses, sales tax will have no effect on your tax due or refund, and entering it will trigger an upgrade to a paid version of the software.

If you're itemizing, you get to choose between deducting your state and local income taxes or your state and local sales taxes. You can't claim both, and you can't claim either one if you're taking the Standard Deduction.   Which should I choose?
