Can I file past years with just one product?

I am trying to file a friend's taxes returns for previous years but I would like to know if I need to download one software per year or I can do it just once.

Each tax year is a separate TurboTax program. Since the tax code changes each tax year you will not find one program from any tax software provider that can complete all prior year tax returns.

No. Tax laws are different every year so you will need to buy the product for every year.

However, you may not be able to find products for as far back as 2009. You may need to find IRS paper forms online for years prior to 2014.
