E-filing for 2020 returns has been permanently closed since mid-October of 2021.  The only way to file a 2020 return is by mail.   Print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it to the IRS (and state if you have  a state return.)

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Thank you. I have mailed the return twice. W’2s etc all attached. Also have written letters. No response. My state return was received on the original dare of filing because I owed state taxes and the state cashed my check. I mailed both state and federal on the same day. I am due a refund for federal. I did not use tracking/certified mail. I understand there is a significant backlog particularly with mailed returns. Does it make sense to mail again but with the tracking?

No.    It is taking the IRS at least six months or more to process mailed returns.   Mailing in more copies of your return could just lead to more confusion and delay.   Sorry--you will have to be patient and wait.   Eventually the IRS will open your envelope and put information on the refund site.   They recently made a change that allows information for 2020 returns to be displayed on the refund site.

TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2021 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
