Can I file head of household if my child was in college half the year

Being away from college still counts as "living with you".

You can claim your child if you meet other Head of Household qualifications.

If they were away at college for the whole year, does that still apply?  Or do they have to have lived with you for part of the year?

Yes, it still applies.  

Temporary absences for special circumstances -- such as a student living away from home -- count as time lived in the taxpayer’s home, even if it's for longer than six months.

thank you for your response, do you have an article I can share with my accountant that will help him understand I can still apply as head of household with college-age kids?
