Can I fax my forms directly to IRS thru turbotax? Is turbotax e-file secure? How do I attach my 1099 form to the e-fax?

About 140 million returns went to the IRS via e-File.

e-File is closed now.

a paper return via US Mail is the only option for 2021 tax return.

generally, the only forms you got that need to be attached are w-2's and any other forms such as 1099s that show federal withholding. follow Turbotax filing instructions. in addition, I highly recommend you using a method where you get proof pf delivery.

No you cannot file by fax.   Faxing is not an option for filing a tax return.   Tax returns can be filed by mail or by e-file---which is not the same as email and not the same thing as faxing.  E-filing is a secure method used by millions of people.  When you e-file, you do not "attach" anything--it is all done electronically and the IRS gets what it needs from you electronically when you prepare the return using software.

If you file by mail:

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
