Can I e-file my 2022 federal return after October 16, 2023 with Turbo Tax CD/download (desktop) version?

I use the Turbo Tax CD/download (desktop) version. Can I e-file my 2022 federal return after October 16, 2023? I have read that one can file with Turbo Tax Online until October 31, 2023, but I could not find if that also is true for the CD/download (desktop) version.

It may allow you to efile for 5 days after the 16th but not guaranteed.  Officially efiling should be done by midnight on the 16th.

Thank you, taxlady27. That does not sound too promising. I did read that one gets those 5 days if a return got rejected, but one had e-filed by October 16. I have a feeling I won't be lucky and get those 5 days for my first e-filing of my return. Darned. I did read the October 31 info a few days ago, but did not read the entire text that stated it was for TT Online until tonight. I do not understand why TT Online is different from TT Desktop, but guess I am out of luck. I won't be able to finish my return in the next 2h22min... so, it is what it is... :(

If you miss the e-file deadline and have to print and mail it:

Make sure you sign and date it in ink on page 2 next to the words "Sign here."   If it is a joint return you both need to sign and date it.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Thank you, xmasbaby0. I was aware that I will have to mail my return if I miss the e-filing deadline, but still thanks for your reply. My question is specifically whether the cutoff for e-filing is midnight on October 16 or not. From what I gather, that seems to be the case, unless I am lucky and get 5 more days. I still do not understand why TT Online allows filing until October 31 and the desktop version does not. I hope TT will change that for future years. The Desktop version should be as "good" as the online version.
