Can i deduct money spent on a rescue dog that i adopted

No. Unless your dog is a guard dog used to protect your business, or he can be claimed as a medical expense like a seeing eye dog, you can not claim him as a dependent. Unless you foster or rescue animals for an IRS-approved charity, your expenses for food, litter, and veterinary bills are not deductible.
