Can I claim my children as dependents if they receive Medicaid from their father?

By court order we have 50-50 custody, but my children live with me and I pay for all their expenses for school, food, clothing, etc.

My ex is on disability and unable to work. My children currently receive medicaid under him. My ex has been claiming them for the past 2 years since our divorce but said I could claim them this year.

By tax code, they are my dependents. But if I claim them would that screw up their medicaid status and screw up their medicaid status? I live in Indiana btw

According to tax law, you are entitled to claim your children as you are their custodial parent. This should have no effect on their disability status.

Would the same apply if Mom and kids live under same roof? We are not married. I pay for everthing. Mom does not work and has kids on her Medicaid. So can I claim the kids and her as she is also dependent?
