Can I claim my 30 year old daughter as a dependent and her college tuition?

My 30 yr old daughter & 5 yr old granddaughter live in NM and I live in KS. My daughter goes to college, does not work, I pay the rent (I am on the lease), tuition, $150 a week for utilities.  Can I claim any of this on my taxes? She is on Medicaid and SRS.

You can only claim a 30 year old dependent if they are fully disabled.  You can claim your five year old granddaughter, however, as long as her parents do not claim her.

That depends on 2 factors.
1.  Do you provide more than half of their support?

2.  Does she have more than $4,300 in taxable income?

Yes, I support her 100%. She has no income.

@RC Miller I answered to hastily above.  Your daughter does qualify as your dependent despite being a student and not living in your household.

Make sure to check with your daughter about advance child tax credit payments she has received which would require her to file a tax return for this year and might interfere with you claiming her or your granddaughter.
