Can I cancel a pending payment to Georgia for the state taxes that I owed? I already payed my balance and now, through TurboTax I’m paying twice what I owed.

I paid the state of Georgia the full balance of my state taxes.  Unfortunately I forgot that I had scheduled a payment with TurboTax.  Today the payment came out of my account, but I have no money for the payment.  I’m several hundred dollars negative and need to cancel the pending scheduled payment to avoid overdraft fees.  What can I do?

At this 11th hour, your best bet is to call the Georgia Department of Revenue directly and explain the situation. They may be able to head things off in time: 877-423-6711 or 404-417-2122 (I'd go with the 404 number as it's likely to be less busy, but this being April 15 you're probably going to be on hold quite a while)

PLEASE HELP! what did you do? What happened I’m going through the SAME thing this year. The first time I filed my taxes I scheduled the payment but it got rejected due to errors the second time I was like f it take it out of my federal and it did; but it also took it out of my account -_- I’ve called the ga department of revenue and they said to call the irs at a weird number and all of the options hang up on me due to high call volume! I need my money back my car just broke down I could loose my job! Nobody wants to help but turbo tax scheduled the payments! Why would they not cancel the FIRST payment when the submission was REJECTED

Georgia will refund the difference once the payments are processed.

@tiffanyr97 Your issue has nothing to do with the IRS. The IRS only deals with federal returns.   Your problem involves your state return and the Georgia Department of Revenue.     Your issue is with the state of GA only.    You need to contact the state to sort it out.
