Yes, he or she can e-file with TurboTax.

If a F-1 student stays in the US more than five years after the year he or she first enters the US, they are considered as a US resident for tax purposes if meet the Substantial Presence Test SPT.  You are required to file a Form 1040 and able to electronically file your taxes.

Hi LinaJ2018 -

Can a F-1 student, who has been in the US for less than 5 years file 1040 if he/ she passes the substantial presence test? I have been in the US since August 2014 and filed my taxes for the year 2016 and 2017 electronically using 1040 on turbotax. Do I need to file an amendment?
