California State Tax Payment - Will the payment just automatically happen

When filing with Turbo Tax I chose to have my Fed refund direct deposit.

I think I also chose direct debit to pay California, but I'm not sure.

How do I know if the State will just direct debit my account or not?

What date will this happen?

To print your tax return worksheets and schedules after you file, including your direct debit instructions for California, please follow these instructions (for TurboTax Online):

  1. Log into your TurboTax account
  2. Scroll to the bottom of page, click Add a State( you are not adding a state, this is just to get in the right menu)
  3. Over to the left, click Tax Tools dropdown
  4. Click the Print Center
  5. Click the Print, save or preview this year's return
  6. Check Federal returns and/or State returns
  7. Select Include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional)
  8. Then, click View or print forms

The direct debit information should be in your state worksheets.

California does allow direct debit of tax payments through the tax return (not all states do - see here for a list).

If you designated a date for the direct debit, such as April 15th, it should generally occur on that date. To check the status of your state return, see this FTB webpage. Generally, e-filed returns are taking about 3 weeks to process. Taxpayers can sign up for a MyFTB account in order to have online access.

So, if there is no direct debit information on the State form then it means the state won't automatically debit my account
