In my 2023 i applied all my refund (Say $X) to 2024. I did itemized deductions in 2023.
Turbotax 2024 carried that forward to 2024 correctly.
Now in 2024 i received 1099g from CA for amount $Y. $Y is much less than $X.
When i go thru the interview and click update the CA refund it does not ask me to enter the new 1099G.
Now i could just add $X and $Y and enter it - but that would be incorrect - my refund was $X.
I noticed is the the amount $Y is very close to what turbo tax calculated for amount applied to column C (on State and local income tax worksheet).
I also tried to delete the entry and go thru the interview. Here I have to enter the larger amount $X and nowhere did it ask me to enter the smaller amount of $Y.
Could you clarify some things for me? This is all discussing California, right?
Did you enter the 1099-G on the federal return? If so, please explain this: "Here I have to enter the larger amount $X and nowhere did it ask me to enter the smaller amount of $Y." Why aren't you entering the actual amount on the 1099-G ($Y)?
"When i go thru the interview and click update the CA refund it does not ask me to enter the new 1099G." - I have no idea what you mean here. Where are you "updating" the CA refund?
