Business Income from 2022 not displaying correctly in 2023 software

I'm having a super weird issue where the 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC values for my 2022 taxes are both the same, when I know for a fact that they were different. I opened up the 2022 desktop software and it's the same issue when viewing 2021 1099's — they also show the same value.

Is this a glitch in the software or am I missing something? Do any of you have this issue too? Not even sure where the number is coming from for the previous year, but it's not correct. I'm attaching a couple screenshots for reference. Please help!

Can someone from Intuit please respond to this?

Due to some changes that involve items previously reported on 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC the system adds them together on the summary screen for 2022.  This is an issue with the display screen only and does not mean that the items were not reported correctly on your tax return.

The number displayed on both lines should be the total of your 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC.  Does that seem to at least add up?

Thank you for responding! It's actually just the 1099-MISC number, not 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC combined, which I thought was weird. To clarify, the displayed numbers for 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC show the total amount coming from all 1099-MISC, not 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC combined.

I asked another question on 2/29 per the response you gave to my initial question. Can you please answer it?

There is a glitch in the system because of the recent changes to the 1099 NEC and 1099 MISC. These are minor issues involving prior year's summary totals but did not impact your returns in 2021 and 2022.

Hopefully, this will be resolved in next year's return so the summary screens will display the correct amounts. I assume this year's summary is reported correctly and this is the most critical part of the return at the moment.

This is still not displaying properly from what I am seeing with the 2024 software.  The business 1099 amounts from the prior year are showing zero for 1099-NEC MISC and K.  Frustrating they can't get this resolved as it seems pretty straight forward to grab the info from the prior years return.  This has been an issue for multiple years now.  The 1099 data needs to be tracked by business and retained as part of the import process for the following years return.

In order for us to troubleshoot this issue, you can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Online users:

Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.

  1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

Here are the instructions for TurboTax Desktop users:

  1. From the black bar at the top of your screen, select Online
  2. Click Send Tax File to Agent
  3. Click Send on the message that pops up
  4. TurboTax will create a "sanitized" copy of your return information with no personal info
  5. Post the 7-digit token number here in this thread

Please also state which version of TurboTax you are using.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

Thank you. To confirm, 52838419 is TY 2023, and 60165517 is TY 2024?

Which state(s) do you have with this return?

No, the ID that came out when I submitted online was a two part ID that this system saw as a phone number so I submitted it in two parts.  But now I see it actually posted correctly in one post.  Weird...

52838149-60165517 is the ID that was generated

I looked at your sanitized 2024 tax file.

Is the problem you identified that your 2024 return, in the breakdown of business income, doesn't show 1099-NEC, -MISC, and -K income for 2023?

Are those income items missing altogether or are they included in the General Business Income line?

They are missing all together from the prior year, but they were entered in 2023.  When you go in to enter 1099 info for 2024 there is no prior year 1099 amounts displayed.  It has been this way for a number of years.  It happens with 1099 NEC, MISC and K from what I can see.  The general income is the amount less all the 1099 income.  It did not roll up into the general amount number.

I think the TT software is grouping the prior year NEC & MISC "business" amounts and loading them into the prior year "personal" 1099 income area

The 1099 K prior year amounts I don't see anywhere else, so I think those are not coming into the current year anywhere.

Thank you. Does the amount you see in the 2023 column for 1099-NEC in the Personal income section match the missing amounts in the 2023 column of the Business section? Screenshot from sanitized file follows:

Yes,  It is grouping both business 1099 NEC & MISC amounts from the prior year and displaying that combined amount in the prior year "personal" 1099 NEC.

The 1099 K data that I have for only one of my two businesses does not show up in the Business or personal area as a prior amount.

The rest of the discussion is in your other thread. It appears that TurboTax Home & Business is taking the 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC income reported in the Business section and populating the the prior year column in the Personal section the next year.
