Box 14 on my imported W-2 shows an amount for several thousand. My W-2 itself does not have any number in box 14. Where is turbotax getting that number from?

TurboTax simply reports what is on the form downloaded from your employer. It is possible the W-2 was changed after it was given to you. Also, the form your employer made available for download may be different that the one they gave you. The items in box 14 are primarily informative in nature and as such the amounts you enter for that box will not likely affect the calculations on your tax return. You can ask your employer about it for a more detailed explanation.

Try deleting the w-2, closing the program then reopen and re import.  if the same issue occurs, there's probably an issue with the import file created by your payroll service provider/employer, For box 14 there is always some letters along with an amount. If the error recurs contact your employer to make sure there should be nothing in box 14, if that's the case just edit your w-2 to remove what's in that box

The other question.....is..

1)  did you actually "import" it directly from the provider?

or

2)  Did you upload a picture or PDF copy from the form sitting in front of you.

If you did #2,  then that's the source of the problem...delete the W-2 and type it in manually.

...Do Not upload  Picture or PDF

I imported my W-2 directly from the payroll company. I also directly imported stock from our  stock company. I ended up just deleting what showed as imported from payroll for Box 14. It's a huge company that does our payroll. I called them and they said if I had RSU it would be showing in Box 14 since they auditted all W-2 for year end back on January 31. I  called my employment company and they had no clue what should or should not go there lol. I ended up just deleting the imported number and  going with what the actual W-2 said. Now I'm curious if last years numbers were imported correctly.

If Box 14 has a value for the RSU, that amount should have also been included in income. That value (basis)  might be needed when the stock is sold unless you recorded it or the Broker knows the correct amount to assign as your basis.

There was no number in box 14. There was the word “other” but no amount like previous years.
