Best way to adjust W-4 and California DE-4 for Alimony deductions?

I have a divorce agreement that was executed in 2017 (prior to tax law change re: alimony deductions) and was recently amended so that I am paying more alimony than I was previously. In addition, my salary has changed. I would like to amend my W2 and state of CA DE-4 so that I don't end up owing or having a big refund from either federal or state. Can you recommend the best way to do this? The alimony deduction and a credit for one dependent are my only main considerations. I file as head of household. Thank you!

Hi, @epoophoron ! Since you've had some changes, it sounds like our free W-4 Calculator might be very helpful to you. This helps you to estimate Federal withholding, but I'm hopeful that this might also shed some light on your CA situation. Please let me know if I'm right, or if this raises any further questions!

Hi, thanks for the answer. After a couple passes through I think I see what the federal situation looks like, and that was helpful. I don't see how to translate this information into something that will help me figure out my state withholdings though. Is there a similar calculator for state of CA?

The state of California offers this calculator. Hope this helps!
