Based on my calculation your New York State Tax is computing the value inaccurately. I see I am being charged at 6.85% for my entire sum, rather than 6.85% over 385,000.

Please clarify and provide some additional information.  Are you filing a resident or non-resident New York tax return?  What is your federal Adjusted Gross Income?  If a non-resident New York return, what is your New York state income?

To follow up further on the issue. I've manually calculated the tax rate according to the published tax tables: https://www.tax.ny.gov/forms/html-instructions/2024/it/it203i-2024.htm#nys-tax-schedule. On the screen 'Let's Review Your New York Numbers' I took the 'Amount we start with for New York' and divided it by the 'Starting amount' and noticed it's a flat tax rate of 6.85% meaning I am being charged more than the actual amount I should be charged. Is this a bug in Turbotax?

 

This is for a resident return, and I am a local NYC resident which means I have the local tax as well. This value is accurately being taxed. Just not the NY tax.

If you're using TurboTax Online:

Once you're logged in to your account,

- on the Tax Home page, click Review/Edit or Pick up where you left off on any of the tax return topics to open your tax return

- on the left hand panel, click on Tax Tools and then choose Tools

- on the pop up window, select Share my file with Agent

- you'll see a message saying you'll give us a copy of your tax return. Your personal information will be changed so we can't see any private information.

- click okay and you'll get another message with a token

 

If you're using TurboTax Desktop:

  • Click on Online in the top menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows
  • Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'
  • Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue.
  • We can then review your exact scenario for a solution

 

Please reply to this message with your token so that we can further assist you. Let us know all the states, if any, are included on the return.
