Baby born may 2024, changed the name on his birth certificate but not his social. I input the name on his social for my taxes would IRS need birth certificate for proof?

IRs info page says birth certificates are required if first time filing dependent. Would this be an issue now should I send in his new birth certificate where the name is changed and attached a letter explaining why my taxes has his old name since his social is still attached to old name?

No, the IRS usually doesn't ask for a birth certificate unless there's an issue. As long as the name on your tax return matches exactly with the name on your son's Social Security card, the IRS won't question it.

If you do receive a letter from the IRS asking for a copy of your son's birth certificate, just send the copy you have along with an explanation of your situation.
