Audit From Local Tax Berkheimer

I received a letter from Berkheimer, which is some kind of tax collector in Allentown Pa stating that I did not pay the local taxes and I owed about over $300.00.  I sent them my W2 and filled out their tax form and now they are wanting me to pay over $600.

Now I only use Turbo tax to file my taxes and I never had to pay any money.  On the W2 the box 18 and 19 is blank, which mean my employer did not take out the local taxes, I assume.  I would like to know what I can do in this instance?

TurboTax does not support local/city tax returns for Pennsylvania.

If you did not pay local taxes during the year then you will need to contact the tax collector in PA for how to pay the  taxes owed.

I am not sure if I am clear about this, but isn’t it my employer’s responsibility to take out the local taxes, how is that my fault?  Especially if I uploaded the W2 to turbo tax, did it not mention this info?  Just asking.

TurboTax would have no way to know whether or not you should or should not have local taxes withheld from your wages.

You need to contact your employer to find out why they did not withhold local taxes.
