As a lender I have to submit a 1098 (and corresponding 1096) to the IRS before the January 31 deadline. Do I need to submit a copy to my state as well?

There is no copy "To Send to State" attached to the 1098 form so I'm really not sure if the state needs a paper copy sent to them as well. My state is Massachusetts, if that matters.

Massachusetts does not require that you file a copy of your 1098 or 1096 with them as long as it is filed federally.

Yes - I receive from an individual $600 or more of mortgage interest. So I definitely have to file with the IRS. I'm just not sure if I also have to send a copy to the state of Massachusetts DOR.
