As a dependent, I have a taxable graduate student fellowship under $15K I listed as "less common income". Why does this incorrectly prompt form 8615 "unearned income"?

because any unearned income is subject to kiddie taxes and so are taxable scholarships and grants. Scholarship and grants meet definition of taxable income but are considered unearned for kiddie tax.
