Unfortunately, employment expenses for W2 workers have changed a great deal this year. Job-related expenses for employees are no longer deductible in tax years 2018 through 2025 due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) that Congress signed into law on December 22, 2017.

If you were self-employed and received pay on a 1099, then your expenses could be deducted as business expenses.

Most of the features of TurboTax Self-employed are the same as the Premier program except it has the self-employment feature.
