I have used TTax for years with no significant problems. However, one thing to watch out for: TTax does not always correctly import data electronically from other financial institutions (banks, brokers, etc). You should visually check the data as it appears in the applicable 1099s.
I have been trying to start a new return for the past 5 days. After logging in successfully, I click what version I wish to use and it never comes up. I check an Outage Map and it looks like most of the US is in Red indicating the site isn't working at all. Nice. A week before the deadline. And no response from Intuit Support either. Brilliant.
I have used TT since 2001. It really is a pig of a program. In fact, I cannot even get the program to respond much of the time. Then when I do - it constantly requires HOURS of updating. My computer is constantly struggling with the Intuit software and Windows 10 updating, asking for strong passwords. It is such a hassle, it's almost easier to do taxes by hand! Took me about 5 minutes to reply - all the while I waited for TT to open a return I started.
When it works and you have it up and running, I really like it.
But the extreme slowness, CPU and memory suck and updating has made WAITING for the program to work painful. In fact, it took me LONGER to wait for the program to open than to file my taxes once it finally let me!
I would steer clear of Turbo tax and try another program.
I too have used TTax for many years, and I love it (insofar as I can love anything related to taxes); rarely has it given me any grief; and it takes care of a boatload of miserable details. I suspect that your computer, not TTax itself, is the primary source of your problems. It sorta sounds like it's clogged up. Have you run any kind of junk and Registry cleaner on it. There are many such applications - I use CCleaner. I believe it has a free and/or trial version.
Nope. They made a transcription error to the irs in 2018 costing me almost 3600 in owed wages. One of their own tax experts even admitted the error and I’ve sent over all documents proving where they are making the mistake. One of their agents Wylie Z first tried sent me info on opening a claim given I purchased the audit protection in 2018. And then turned right around and closed the case and said I should just pay the irs. I have screen shots of all this too. I’m still awaiting an answer or response on something from them. The audit program team they use. Everything. This is supposed to be covered and they have since tried every way they can to try and weasel out of it. Don’t use them.
Turbo Tax gets worse every year, I used it for 10 years, 2019 is my last, and everytime it updates I lose what I had put in. I am on my way to purchase HR tax cd for 2019 and try it instead.
Yes, last year it was reasonably easy to get through once you got the gist of how it worked. This year, not only is it difficult to maneuver through, but the system doesn't accept changes, it randomly answers the wrong information form the HELP screen and so on. I have cleared and started my return over at least five times and when I go back in, it has already generated business gains/losses without me even putting any information in. The service really sucks this year and looks like it's only getting worse. They do seem to manage to get several sales screens put into the mix though. They are more concerned about the money they are making than they are making sure the program works correctly. Stupid TurboTax!
Oh MY GOD, wish I had found this section prior to me clicking send on my tax return. It took em 10 hours to file my own returns because I had accidently went on this horribly site to file a freefile to get my stimulus check but DID NOT realize it's actually filing a federal return ( stupidity in my part). So I went thru hell to figure out how to file amendment, and I did.... but in the end , TURBO did not capture my 1099 INT which i Had to reenter 10 x - I had printed the 1040x already and now cant correct it!Not only that, all this costed $240 for self employment tax..... while I Only PAID $150 for an in person accountant who did the job right & I only spent 5 minutes to give them the paper work. IF IT WERENT FOR COVID, I WOULDNT BE ON THIS DISGUSTING SITE
yes, the last 2 years I used TurboTax was quite a bit easier and more reliable. This year, their format is screwy and makes almost no sense. After hitting 'Clear my information and start over' about 8 times, I finally had to call them and get assistance. I ended up not filing through them when I was finished, but printed everything out and am now going through an accountant. I certainly am not willing to have TurboTax handle something as important as filing our taxes. It was the biggest and most frustrating mess this year. I doubt I will ever use them again. I don't trust their system to be accurate anymore!
This has been the worst. I bought the state efile and then everything crashes over and over. I cannot even open the software or the file. Can't get support. Can't get a response.
I hope I can find a new provider of tax software that is reliable.
Junk. Junk.
The navigation, searching for products I could not imagine it being worse than it is. Trying to find a product to download gives different results, forces you into an online Turbo Tax. I had to use Google to search the intuit site to find what I wanted to download. I guess "Taxes are complicated, so this site should be too?" You guys need a complete overall of this site.
I thought Intuit was a good company. I was wrong.
Due to a software bug in the Turbo Tax website I was unable to file my taxes, so I called their customer support center. Their automated system is terrible, asks the same questions over and over, and makes it almost impossible to talk to an actual human. If you are lucky enough to get connected with a human it will be with someone who lacks basic communication skills, doesn't know anything about taxes, and is incapable of comprehending even the most basic concepts. I have spent hours and hours talking with countless customer support representatives and not a single one of them was able to solve my problem, nor were they even interested in trying. One of them kept me on hold for 30 minutes just to hang up on me as soon as they took me off hold. Not a single one of them even seemed to understand what Turbo Tax software is used for. The best I got was pre-scripted customer support responses and generic apologies when their suggestions failed to solve my problem. Finally I asked to speak to a manager. I was told that a manager would call me back "hopefully sometime soon". They never did.
I've used Turbotax for 20 years. I'M USING ONLINE .....IT SUCKS.
I need to make one little correction to new schedule 3 and it can't be accessed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Intuit is more interested in selling add-ons than helping me
@jim2355 Did you use the Desktop program before? Online does not have the Forms mode. What do you need to change on schedule 3? We can tell you how to get there in the interview steps.
Horrible is an understatement. If you are a glutton for punishment and disappointment, have these people do your return. They will not return your call, they claim they have experts checking your return all along the way, that's a bunch of Lies. They say they will do this or that if they make a mistake, that is a total fabrication! , I have never been so Disturbed at a company more than this company. They tell you that the information you give them is artificial information and therefore no human is responsible for it. I am a disabled senior citizen, and I fell for all their lives, and I have to tell you they really tore into me. There isn't a single day that goes by that I'm not seething over all of this. My only remedy is finding places where I can review them and let the public know what they're getting themselves into.
Your angry post comes to me several times a year. If you're so unhappy with TTax why do you stay with it? I have used TTax for many years. My return has become increasingly complex in recent years, and I'm very grateful to have an application that takes me through all the hairy details, especially the cursed K-1s (whoever invented them should be taken out and shot). I have had no significant problems - it does what I need it to do. My only objection is the extra charge to submit my state return electronically. You get one state free, which should include its e-submission.
This is the second time I have posted. You have me confused with someone else.
Do you work for turbotax?
You are correct, I failed to note that you are not the same person who has, in the last year or two, posted very similar complaints, several times. My apologies.
That said a) other than a customer, I have no connection whatsoever with Intuit, and never have; b) I have used TTax Deluxe for at least a dozen years, with very few problems. It handles everything I bring to it. Yeah, there are a few little things I would like them to do differently; but overall, it's worth every dollar, far less than I would pay a CPA to do my returns. And I would still have to take the time to assemble and forward all the 1099s and other information.
Yes, I started out with the $80 package, then upgraded to $160 package to get some live help. I tried several times to get help, but agents would just disappear after starting live chats with me. It's like when the dialog got down to the point that the agent actually had to do some work "and help me"...they just didn't respond anymore. Agent "Charmaine" is the last agent to just "disappear".
I am disappointed in the defference between the online version and the desktop version. You should be able to import any csv file no matter which version you use. I would not have bought it if I knew the desktop version would not import my coinbase and others. If it is in small print, they need to make it bigger.
Sorry have no answer just a very frustrated, (term used lightly), to describe the problem with getting a pc download after buying software,. They sent me the license number but first run thru only gave me a MAC option to click on . The PC option was grayed out. I finally tried the MAC and then it brought me to a screen that allowed me to click only to get the message. I guess my frustration is they deducted the amount from my checking in data speed. But tried calling support and now have to wait until Monday to talk with them.
I did not expect this from them but I am glad I did not sign up for the assisted TT as I would guess the issues are not any better. I have not yet found a cancellation option as I don't like the results so far.
I will post if I make any progress in any of these areas,
Greg
