Am I qualified for the October extended deadline for filing taxes that Gavin Newsom is talking about?

I worked in Santa Clara County in CA all of 2022 but moved out of state. So will I still be able to use the extended October deadline?

To clarify, did you live in an effected county and what date did you move out?

Yes, I lived in Santa Clara County. I moved out Dec 16, 2022 but still work for a CA based company. And my spouse is on short term disability with a CA based company.

No, the automatic federal extensions you are referencing are based on the winter storms of January 8 through 10, 2023. Santa Clara is an affected county, but you would not be covered if you moved prior to January 8. Click here for details.

The California extension would apply as they are allowing an extension for all California tax returns.

If you need more time to file your federal tax return, you can get an automatic extension by filing Form 4868. Click here to file an extension in TurboTax.
