I have an existing payment plan with the IRS from last year's (I guess officially 2021?) filing and now that I'm about to file my extension this week I need to add it to that plan. How do I go about that? Thanks!

You must be current on your existing payment plan and your upcoming years tax must be paid in full, or you plan is in default.
Contact IRS to update your plan before Tax Day to add another year.

Click on revise the plan.
Should be good to go!

If you already have an installment agreement and you also expect to owe taxes for the current year, you must act quickly to request a change to your existing installment agreement. Once a new tax balance is assessed by the IRS, you will be considered in default of the current agreement. (which is what that means above.) You can request an amendment to the installment agreement online at that link I sent you, or Calling the IRS at 1-800-829-7650, or Visiting a local IRS office.
Take one of these steps before the due date for the tax year in question to avoid collections actions that will place your existing installment agreement in default.
The easiest way to amend your installment agreement is with the IRS online payment agreement tool. You can revise the type of plan, monthly payment due date, and payment amount. Good luck!
@LoriLeighEA I think you answered my next question with that last comment. Are you saying I need to request a change to the current agreement BEFORE I file the extension that is due this week?
