Accrued Interest

I paid accrued interest in 2024.  I entered it as an adjustment on the 1099-INT.  It's not showing up on my return.  Not on Schedule B or anywhere else.

Please follow the steps below to report the adjustments:

  1. Revisit the Interests and Dividends section
  2. Select to review or Update the 1099-Int.
  3. Continue to the screen  Do any of these uncommon situations apply? Select, I need to adjust the interest reported on my form.
  4. Click on Continue.
  5. Enter the adjustment amount and under the reason select My accrued interest is included in this 1099-Int.

Form 1099-int worksheet box 1 will show the interest amount and if you scroll down to Adjustment to Interest you'll see the  adjustment amount.

Form 1040 line 2b will show the taxable interest after the adjustment.

Schedule B is only necessary when you receive more than $1,500 of taxable interest or dividends.

How do I preview my TurboTax Online return before filing?

This is for Charles Schwab.  I entered the accrued interest per your instructions.  On the Form 1099-INT worksheet for Schwab, the Adjustment to Interest section is blank.  No box checked, no amount entered.  The amount on Schedule B line 1 for Schwab is the same amount as what's on the 1099-INT without adjustment for accrued interest.

Oops.  Never mind.  I see the accrued interest adjustment on my return.  Thanks!
