A $0 1098-E from Student Loan Servicer?

Hi. I've never had this happen before my servicer changed to Nelnet. They generated a 1098-E from the "U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION" but it's for $0.00 in box 1. I didn't pay any student loan interest in 2023, so I don't know why they generated this.

Should I just throw it into TurboTax anyways with the $0 on it so it matches what the IRS has (I assume they have a 1098-E for $0 for me as well).

Thanks!

Disregard the Form 1098-E that you received since no student loan interest was paid for that tax year.

@DoninGA I thought about it. It just worries me since it says on there the normal spiel about how it's furnished to the IRS lol.

I think I'll leave it off.

But if I did put it on there with the $0, would TurboTax accept it and also the IRS wouldn't mind?

Thanks!

Since the amount of interest is $0, TurboTax will ignore the entry and it would not be entered on Schedule 1 Line 21 which normally would flow to Form 1040 Line 10.  The IRS will ignore the Form 1098-E since no student loan interest was paid.
