Using the desk top version on the Mac. Updated to current version. 3rd party data sharing at Morgan Stanley is enabled, SSN and login info are correct, documents are available to download. It doesn't give me an error message, it just beeps after trying to connect.
contact MS to see if they can help since every brokerage is somewhat different in the steps that must be taken.
Thanks. I contacted MS and there was a known issue with hardware keys. I reverted to texting a code but that had no effect. Support said that if that did not help to contact Turbo Tax.
Please see "How do I import my 1099s" for detailed instructions on importing your information into TurboTax.
If you are referring to a Morgan Stanley at Work account, please see these instructions.
If those do not assist, there are a few other options in the following link to assist.
What if I can't import my 1099?
Everything appears fine according to the instructions. There are no error messages anywhere. Turned off the VPN before I started.
+1 I'm having the same issue using desktop version on Mac and trying to connect to Morgan Stanely at Work. There is just a beep and no error message provided.
Same exact Issue. Using desktop TT Premier, software updated, on a Mac. I have selected the correct firm (Morgan Stanley Wealth Management). My SSN, username and password are all confirmed correct. I have enabled third party data sharing on MS Online. There is no error message. The attempted log-on just stops and beeps.
Having exact same error. Contacted both Morgan Stanley and TurboTax, no resolution.
TurboTax indicated they have had multiple cases reported with the same problem. “Hopefully” will be corrected 8n a future release.
I am experiencing the same issue. Mac Turbotax Deluxe 2024. All MS info is correct and third party data sharing is enabled. Beeps after clicking continue with no import and no error message.
That’s curious. I have the same problem with Ameriprise. I have multiple documents, the first imported as expected, the second I just get the beep as indicated. No error or other indication there’s an issue. Also on a Mac using TT Premier.
It would be great to get this settled.
I am extremely surprising no one is monitoring this thread and fix. I called the customer service and got a bunch of SOP-ish answers (plz connect your internet, restart your computer, restart your browers..). After I explained I did all the hard work followed by deep google research, they just said "You should manually type in".
I am very regretting to use turbotax
I did give up and type it in. I called the Nohelp also. Really a sad. I've used TurboTax for a long as I can remember but I guess I'll be changing next year.
I'm giving TT another week to solve it. If they don't bother, I move all my businesses to another tool next year. TT doesn't want our money? We'll find the one who does!
Same exact issue with TurboTax Deluxe Desktop for Mac, trying to import from Morgan Stanley Wealth Management. Called the Help number provided below the log-in information and talked to someone at Morgan Stanley who asked me if my password was correct for half an hour and then told me to call TurboTax.
MacOS desktop, Premier, 10+ yr user. I was able to get a Morgan Stanley import to work for my tax documents, first time. When I went to import my wife's documents, got the beep; many attempts always the same. So, started a new return for my wife, the file import worked; tried to import my documents into the new file, beep! For this year's version, my theory is you only get one import per institution!; previous versions no issues. TT help desk said I "...need to delete my cookies...", which makes no sense for the desktop version.
So, now I have two returns, same year I need to merge, but TT does does not export or allow a "Save As" .txf file formats (an industry standard); "Save As" appears under File if you, under Help, search "Save As", follow the Big Blue Arrow, click Save As, but no option provided to save a .txf file format. Google search provided me that non-starter "solution".
One thing we had to do on the Morgan Stanley side was disable and reenable Third Party sharing under Security Settings. That solved an original issue to access my Wife's tax documents. Thank you to the MS help desk.
So at least I have completed 1099 related tax forms (wife's) to hand jam into our joint return. That is unless Intuit determines this Import broke is MAJOR and provides a fix in the next couple of weeks.
Here is a work around. I launched the online version, it is free until you file, imported my 2023 return, imported my data from MS (worked twice for two different users, at the same institution, into the same file; this "solved" my problem), exported the online file to the desktop, deleted the online version, finished my 2024 return on the desktop. The online Tax Tool > Tool pop-up has these file manipulation tools. TT still needs to fix the desktop import to truly solve the ISSUE!
What is workaround if you do not want to start over on your 2024 return? I do not want to redo all the time and work already spend on preparing the 2024 return on the desktop. Could not find any way to import the 2024 return that is in-progress into the free online version. Is there a way to do this?
the ultimate workaround is to input manually... 1099-INT and DIV are usually straightforward to input and you have to take care of adjustments/supplemental tax info either way if those apply to you (e.g. US Gov obligations, Foreign taxes, accrued interest etc). 1099-B most people can just input at summary level, if you have any adjustments such as wash sales, AMD or non covered securities those are best input at detailed level to avoid adjusting sales summaries which will trigger a need to mail your 1099-B to IRS.
On one of the many other threads about this issue, someone from TT vaguely posted "Our developers are looking into import issues. Northwest Mutual and Golden Sachs import should work now." but did not mention E*Trade/Morgan specifically.
@Baskball72 I guess it all depends on how far you are in your 2024 tax file journey; for me I did restart, had to redo about 8 hours of work, but now I am intimately familiar with my 2024 return :)). I Googled your 2024 import question and the answer I got was a hard No.
@baldietax Some of those things you mentioned I have many occurrences of, hence I really, really wanted to import. Good to hear some fixes are done, hopefully Morgan Stanley is working its way up the list.
If you can't seem to connect to your broker account, try disabling anti-virus software. Here's How to Turn Off Anti-Virus Programs .
@MarilynG1 . Thanks for the idea of turning OFF anti-virus software, but no joy. Still cannot import twice from the same financial institution for two different account holders for the desktop version.
Today’s release appears to have fixed the problem! I was able to download successfully from Morgan Stanley.
@Baskball72 Eureka! Fixed mine too. I was able to import twice from the same financial institution for two different users.
