2024 PTIN: If I buy the 2024 PTIN from the IRS website for $19.75, in February 2024, can I use it to do 2023 taxes for clients?

If I buy a PTIN now in 2024, is the IRS ok with my doing 2023 tax returns for clients.

I understand that TT is not for tax preparation. My question is regarding the PTIN only (not TT). I didn't know where else to look for an answer. I have searched on Google and can't find an answer to this question.

The 2024 PTIN is for filing taxes during the year 2024.  You can prepare 2023 returns as well as any previous year's tax returns.  If you would like more information about PTINS see the IRS page: Frequently Asked Questions: Do I Need a PTIN?
