2023 TurboTax ISSUE! State Taxes

I used 2023 for Fed and State only to find out for the first time in years, I owed State of Kansas taxes.  Called the State and found out the program was not calculating the deduction for social security and now I need to file and amendment and Schedule S and resubmit everything!  I'm extremely displeased with TurboTax and they should be covering the cost for having to re-do everything!

What cost do you think you have for amending?   There is no fee to amend unless amending causes a need to upgrade to a higher version of the software.

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

You can watch for information here:

Cost?  The cost for printing and faxing or mailing in the return.   You can't measure the cost of personal time and anxiety this has caused PLUS the act that I am owed a refund but their program error caused an issue which indicated I owed the State in error!  TurboTax clearly screwed up and after speaking with the State, the employee there stated this is a known problem with this program.  TurboTax should refund my money for using their program!  It has caused me a great deal of anxiety and now, until the State processes my amended return which may take weeks, I still have to pay them until they finish processing and then they have to turn around and refund everything I have paid to them plus the refund I was due in the first place!  TurboTax created this issue within their program and should be held responsible.  I have used Turbo for years but no longer.  Their product and support are not at the same level it was before.  Intuit has failed on all fronts.

You can have a conversation with customer support.

No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue.  If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help.  Do not use the word “refund.”

When did you file 2023?  Did you mail or efile?  Did you get a letter from the state?  What exactly does the letter say?

I searched and didn't find any other posts reporting that Kansas didn't subtract SS.   Maybe your Social Security got entered on the wrong federal line.  Do you have a taxable amount on federal 1040 line 6b? Check your schedule S and see if the amount on 1040 6b is really missing.   And if it was missing on your copy you would have had the tax due when you filed and not a refund.   If it was missing they wouldn't add it in again and say you owe more.   If anything they would add it to S and increase your refund. So where is it showing up as taxable on the state?  There must be another reason why they changed your return to a tax due. I would call the state again and try asking someone else there.

And your original post doesn't quite make sense to me. I struggled to understand what happened and how to write this up. Hope my post makes sense.  I know my post is probably not clear, maybe someone else will understand what I'm trying to say and unravel it.

I would call support and see what they say about it. How to Contact Turbo Tax

This post is older but might help.  It's the only Kansas post I could find.

I am not sure how to respond to your message.  I thought I was succinct in explaining the issue.  Everything was entered correctly.  I have discussed this with the State of Kansas representative multiple times.  The issue is within the TurboTax program itself.  There was no linkage within the State form to do the Schedule S which was required in 2023 by the State.  This is a TurboTax program error and not a user error.
