Is the Maryland State Pension Exclusion Calculation incorrect for 2023? It appears that the 2023 maximum exclusion amount is not being used in Turbo Tax's calculations. If Turbo Tax is still using the 2022 maximum exclusion amount, that would explain the problem that I am experiencing. Perhaps there will be a correction in an update? Right now, I can't even access the worksheet from within the program. I had no problems with this in previous years.
The Maryland pension is a bit complicated, as you can see at this Maryland webpage.
Tell us why you think the current year calculation has an issue.
TurboTax does the calculation correctly, using the correct 2023 maximum exclusion amount of $36,200. Maryland requires that the $36,200 be reduced by the amount of your 2023 Social Security benefits.
If you are filing jointly, make sure that your Forms 1099-R and SSA-1099 are assigned to the correct spouse in TurboTax
You can view the calculation on the Maryland Pension Exclusion Computation Worksheet.
Thank you. The program is not calculating a pension exclusion amount for me this year, even though there should be an amount listed based on my numbers this year.
There seems to be no pension exclusion worksheet for me to pull up. In previous years, it's there, but right now there is no worksheet, and TurboTax seems to conclude I have no pension exclusion, even though I do.
