1099-Misc - when I enter it moves it under business section in turbo tax premier as asks for business details

I received a 1099-misc for a free money promo for signing up for new acct.  Total is only $12.

When I enter it under 1099-misc section it moves it to the business section where I have another 1099 -NEC for some freelance work I did.   By moving it here it requires a business name for me, EIN and other relevant business information as it thinks this is a business 1099.  This was not a business, this was free money, should I not enter it as 1099-misc.  If I don't enter anything it errors out during federal check.

How do I enter this, under 1099 misc. or under other income?

Thanks

You are correct.  This income is not a business activity and should not be reported that way.  The income can be reported using the information below.

You should select it was not your main job and there was no intent to earn money. This income will show up on Schedule 1, Line 8z.

  • Search (upper right) 1099misc > Click the Jump to Link > Complete the questions as noted above

You can view your 1040 form before you e-file:

  1. Open or continue your return. (TurboTax Online)
  2. With the Tax Tools menu open, you can then:
    • View only your 1040 form: Select Tools. Next, select View Tax Summary in the pop-up, then Preview my 1040 in the left menu.
  3. TurboTax CD/Desktop - Select Forms (upper right) > Scroll to Schedule 1 (left) > View line 8z
