1099 Misc and Schedule C

I'm retired from General Motors.  Each year they send a 1099 Misc for a legal services benefit.  It income runs around $27.   I tried to report it as "other income"  on line 3 (as shown on my 1099) but TT still wants me to fill out a schedule C and I'm not a business owner.

I've tried the above list solution without success.  We do get this benefit yearly although our intent is not to make income.   TT doesn't adjust for this situation.    I know I'm not alone in this

Here is a workaround.

  1. Log into your account
  2. Select Wages and income>other income
  3. Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099>start
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page to Other Reportable Income
  5. Other taxable income, answer yes
  6. Then give a brief description of the income and the amount listed on the 1099 MISC
  7. For the Description, you can say 1099 MISC for legal benefit and then the amount.
