1099-B from Fidelity missing from TT after 1099-INT and 1099-DIV import (resolved)

I successfully imported my 1099-INT and 1099-DIV from Fidelity using the new web based interface from Turbotax Premier 2024. However, the 1099-B data is missing in Turbotax (TT).

The 1099-B with brokerage transactions is clearly present on the pdf from Fidelity. Manual entry of this data to TT will be very time consuming.

I contacted Fidelity and they said the import should have included the 1099-B and the problem appears to be on the Turbotax side.

I have tried deleting the import and retrying it but it still only shows a 1099-DIV and 1099-INT not the 1099-B that should also be present.

Is there any way to resolve this?

EDIT: resolved this by deleting the import in TT, saving, EXITING Turbotax (I think this is what fixed the bad state), then going through the entire import process again.

In case anyone who actually works at Intuit is reading this: the new import procedure that bounces out to the web browser for login is clunky, awful and -- according to many other discussion threads -- full of bugs. This is hot garbage. The essential import functionality that worked in past versions of TT is now broken.

Please clarify the following so we can better assist you:

  1. Which section of TurboTax were you in when you attempted to import the form?
  2. Where in TurboTax do you see that the form was not imported? On the summary screen, the refund meter, or another location?

Hi,

I also have issue with importing brokerage forms in TT Home & Business 2024. I have Fidelity (multiple accounts), Schwab, and ComputerServe. None of them import correctly, I have to input a lot of boxes, in case of Fidelity, TT doesn't import 1099-B. How can I fix this, do I have to delete all 1099-INT, 1099-DIV from these brokers and redo again?

Yes, if the information did not transfer correctly, delete the entries and try again.  Follow these troubleshooting steps provided by TurboTax:

  • Sign in to your brokerage account and confirm you have enabled third-party access to your account information.
  • Change your password for your online brokerage account, then sign back in to TurboTax and start the import process again using your new password.
  • Double-check that you're entering the right credentials on the import screen. Depending on your institution, you could be asked to enter any combination of username and password, fund number, account number, or document ID number.
  • Check with your brokerage to see if you need to be enrolled in online access in order to import.
  • If you're using TurboTax Desktop, make sure your program is up to date.
  • When signing in to your brokerage account from TurboTax, try entering two extra characters at the end of the password, then delete the extra characters and press enter.
  • If your import issues are specifically related to your Schwab account, these instructions might help.

I finally get TT to import 1099-B from Fidelity but TT doesn't populate the sales of my securities on form 8949. It did for my Schwab 1099 but not from Fidelity. How can I get TT to populate my Fidelity 1099-B sales?

Thanks,

Are the Fidelity entries posted on the IRS Schedule D Capital Gains and Losses?

The entries may be eligible to be reported only on Schedule D and not on form 8949.

There is a NOTE on IRS form 8949 Sales and Other Dispositions of Capital Assets that refers to Box A under Part I and Box D under Part II.

Note: You may aggregate all short-term transactions reported on Form(s) 1099-B showing basis was reported to the IRS and for which no adjustments or codes are required. Enter the totals directly on Schedule D, line 1a; you aren’t required to report these transactions on Form 8949 (see instructions).

Thank You.  I had the exact same problem using Desktop Mac version.  After updated all my Fidelity imports, one 1099-DIV did not link to Schedule B.  Very misleading and dangerous bug.  The 1099-DIV form imported OK but was not being used!   I resolved this by deleting the imported 1099-DIV, saving and quiting TT.  Then, went through the entire import process again and the form loaded, looked identical as before and linked properly on Schedule B.  What a mess this years import process was! Come on Intuit, you can do better than this!
