Write off mileage for long distance drive to job interviews

Hi, I'm a resident physician finishing my training and I interviewed for several out of state jobs last year. I drove to several of these interviews with the drives often lasting several hours. Can I write these off as travel expenses using the standard mileage rate?

Yes, you can deduct certain expenses, such as mileage when searching for a new job in your current occupation.  There are specific requirements for taking deductions for job search expenses. To benefit from deducting the costs of searching for a job, you need to have enough deductions to itemize your deductions (so they will exceed your standard deduction).
