Will I get child tax credit, if I did not receive advance payments but the amount is not reflected in my return?

It says I qualify but the amount is in grey and does not show in my total return

Yes, you are eligible for the Child Tax Credit even if you did not receive advanced payments. You will have the entire amount added to your 2021 tax return. If you have added your child on the My Info screen, you can go into the child tax credit section:

  1. In your TurboTax return search for Child Tax Credit and Continue.
  2. Answer the question on the Let's start with where you spent the most time in 2021 screen and Continue.
  3. On the Tell us about any advance Child Tax Credit payments screen, answer No.
  4. Answer the questions on the following screens, confirm your amount on the Let's recheck your advance Child Tax Credit payments screen, and Continue.

TurboTax should now display the amount you qualify for based on your income and amount of qualifying children and their ages. To check it is on your tax return:

  1. Select Tax Tools in the left menu (if you don't see this, select the menu icon in the upper-left corner).
  2. With the Tax Tools menu open, you can then view your 1040 form: Select Tools. Next, select View Tax Summary in the pop-up, then Preview my 1040 in the left menu
  3. Scroll down until you see Form 1040 Line 28 Refundable child tax credit. This line should have $3,000 for a child 6-17 and $3,600 for a child under 6 as of December 31, 2021.
